The Southern Arizona Regional Solar Partnership is a cooperative effort to focus attention on  Southern Arizona's natural opportunities for putting solar power to work.  Southern Arizona has the natural resource and human capital to grow solar in a way unequaled in other parts of the country.  The Southern Arizona Regional Solar Partnership seeks to encourage the expansion of solar-based systems to reduce our reliance on sources of energy that generate green house gases.

Every kilowatt hour that is derived from solar energy means that carbon-based fuels are not consumed and that we have deferred the generation of carbon dioxide. The City of Tucson has endorsed the U.S. Mayors Resolution on Climate Change, and our region is committed to embracing solar energy to dramatically change our energy profile.

The Southern Arizona Regional Solar Partnership is based at Pima Association of Governments.

Arizona is known throughout the world for its abundant sunshine.  From the Sonoran desert to the high plateaus of the four corners region, Arizona  has sun – and lots of it.

In Tucson, a designated Solar America City, there are 300 days of sunshine each year.  In southern Arizona, solar power is abundant and free.

Arizona is already home to one of the nation’s largest solar power arrays at Springerville providing 5 megawatts of electricity to Tucson Electric Power. Just north of Tucson, Arizona Public Service has installed a solar concentrating system to capture radiant heat and generate electricity. In urban areas, solar panels on residential and commercial properties are becoming more commonplace, and the   University of  Arizona  has established the Arizona Research Institute for Solar Energy (AzRISE).
