 Pima Transit-Special Needs

Established in 1980, Pima Transit is a door-to-door paratransit service provided by Pima County to persons with disabilities living outside the Tucson city limits, but within the Tucson metro area. Eligibile riders include people six years of age and older who live within the special needs transportation service area and have been certified by the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)Eligibility Office.

Pima Transit is also known as HandiCar, which is the private company currently holding the service contract with Pima County. HandiCar operates a fleet of small cut-away and extended vans, which are fully equipped to load and unload wheelchair passengers of all ages and abilities. In fiscal year 2005-06, Pima Transit provided over 72,400 passenger trips throughout the Tucson region.
