Within the PAG region $34.8 million was made available for “local” jurisdiction projects (Table 1) and $46.6 million for projects on the state highway system (Table 2). All projects must be located on the federal aid highway system; thus many local streets are not eligible for this funding.
In addition to this roadway funding, the region will receive additional funds for transit projects. The region will receive at least $16.02 million in transit funds but is eligible and will apply for additional transit funds. Table 3 identifies transit projects for which the region will seek funding.
On a statewide basis, over $15.6 was set aside for Transportation Enhancement projects. The Transportation Enhancements program was first established by the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) in 1991 and continued in subsequent reauthorization bills. Transportation Enhancement (TE) activities are federally funded, community-based projects that expand travel choices and enhance the transportation experience by improving the cultural, historic, aesthetic and environmental aspects of our transportation infrastructure. These statewide TE funds will be distributed to previously approved TE projects that could be "shovel ready" within the time requirements of the ARRA. Three projects in our region, listed in table 4, will receive ARRA TE funds for a total of $1.356 million.
